cuomo a democrat and new jersey governor chris christie a republic originally told the white house they wanted $79 billion just for new york and new jersey. the white house instead asked congress for this $60.4 billion. the white house office of management and budget sent a letter to speaker of the house john boehner to say that this $60.4 billion would be, quote: funds necessary to finance a needed recovery effort and to help the region prepare for future challenges, including future storms, severe storms and coastal flooding as well as impact associated with a changing climate. governor cuomo and governor christie thanked president obama for all this money in a statement, this pledged money and the senators from their states chuck schumer, frank lautenberg, kristen gillibrand all democrats said this $60.4 billion is a good start but they acknowledged that congress has other things on its plate and this money is not all guaranteed. some members they think might push for some spending cuts to offset all this new spending. they said, quote: this is going to be a tough fight in the

. the newark star ledger in new jersey reporting that governor chris christie is going to ask the federal government to reimburse the state for 100% of the cost of rebuilding from superstorm sandy. christie heads to washington on thursday to meet with federal officials. you know, parts of the new jersey coastline, complete devastated by this powerful storm. you know, governor christie estimates that sandy caused upwards of $20 billion of damages. >>> and the atlanta journal-constitution with more information about dozens of children and adults that were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning at the local school there. at least 49 people were sent to the hospital yesterday. take a look at this. fire officials believe the heating system failed there. finch elementary had no carbon monoxide detectors, either. which, i guess, they're not required in georgia. and many parents complained they were left in the lurch because of poor communication. soledad o'brien will talk to a student, a parent and also a school official. so we'll get lots of sides there. >> also coming up, amazement and dismay.

for that nomination when people inside the republican party pining for other candidates, people like chris christie, jeb bush and david patreaus. so it was in 2011 when an analyst for fox news, k.t. mcfarland sat down with general patreaus to talk about the war in afghanistan. also the prospect that david patreaus might be tapped to head the cia or be the chairman of the joint chiefs. it was during that discussion when this i guess proposal was issued to david patreaus. k.t. mcfarland said it came from ro ro roger ailes, if patreaus wanted to run for president ailes might be able to help him with that and run a david patreaus for president campaign. here's a little bit of sound from the interview obtained by "the post." the other thing was directly advice to me from roger ailes is -- >> i'm not running. >> that's not the question at this point. he says, if you're offered chairman, take it. if you're offered anything else, don't take it. resign in six months and run for president. okay. and i know you're not running for president, but at some point, when you go to new york next you may want to just
. megyn: new jersey governor chris christie telling fema the storm cost $39 billion in damage. new jersey is asking the feds to cover almost all of that. in new york 305,000 homes and 265,000 businesses are destroyed or damaged. governor cuomo is asking for $33 billion to rebuild and $9 billion more to prevent future storm damage. a horrifying story involving the random violence that was once a part of new york city's reputation but is now much more rare. it happened yesterday when a father was shoved in front of a moving subway train by a total stranger and it was all caught on tape. >> people said a panhandler was harassing passengers, and a man wind to the panhandler wind to him to try to calm him down saying you are scaring passengers. as the announcement for the rain came. witnesses say the panhandler picked the man you and physically threw him onto the tracks. >> i was in the back of the platform and the train came to an abrupt -- pulling into the station. next thing you know you heard people yelling, the train was 3/4 into the platform. >> reporter: people began running towards the
